It’s important to keep in mind that the majority of notes you will handle will be made from some paper- which calls for particular care. While handling banknotes, be sure to observe the following guidelines to ensure that damage is avoided and care is taken:

  • Unclean hands will transfer oils and dirt onto the notes- causing unnecessary damage. Be sure to clean your hands before handling notes
  • Take care when removing the note from its holder or sleeve
  • Carefully, and lightly examine the note with clean hands to determine such things as note printing technique, and whether the note has been folded or tampered with.
  • Carefully place the note back in its case or sleeve as soon as you have finished examining it
  • Keep in mind that a paper note has a limited life expectancy- which is proportionally related to the amount of handling it receives.
