AUSTRALIA Hay Internment Camp 1/- (One Shilling) 1 March 1941 Signatures Epstein and Stahl. Hay notes are keenly sought for their history and unique design - for example the border on the front of the note incorporates the words 'We are here because we are here' in the barbed wire whilst the back features 25 sheep equating to the number of huts in the camp, each with an internee's name concealed in the fleece. The popularity of these notes can be seen from the dramatic price rises over more than 20 years with this item rising from $850 in 1989 to $30,000 in 2011!
