John Pettit

Educated at Knox Grammar School and the University of New South Wales, he studied Architecture but in 1987 turned his hobby into a business, establishing John Pettit Rare Banknotes. He is Australia’s leading expert on Australian and British Commonwealth banknotes, and has been recognised as such for over two decades. As far back as 1991 leading Australian numismatist, Greg McDonald, described John as “Australia’s premier banknote dealer”.

He was an early contributor to the Pick “Standard Catalog of World Paper Money”, and the Renniks and Greg McDonald catalogues.

John is the co-author of “Australian History 1901-2001 As Seen Through Banknotes”, arguably the finest and most significant book ever released on Australian numismatics.

As Australia's premier banknote dealer, John has appeared regularly in the media featuring on the radio show 'Money News' with Ross Greenwood, Channel 9 news and most recently the Channel 10 breakfast show in May 2012.

Peter Baxter

Peter has been a collector of rare Australian banknotes for a decade and commenced his association with John Pettit in 2003. He has a broad range of corporate experience having operated at executive level for large multi-national corporations for several years.

Educated at St. Ignatius’ College, Riverview, Peter is an employment lawyer by training with an extensive human resources background, focusing on employee relations.

Peter is also a keen investor and has an excellent understanding of how markets work. He brings that knowledge to the fore by pinpointing the merits of investing in rare banknotes when compared with other investment vehicles.

Passionate about customer service and with an entrepreneurial approach to doing business, Peter has been instrumental in the development of our Portfolio magazine, which has established a new benchmark for dealer- issued numismatic publications in Australia.
